The piazza gets its shape from the ruins of Emporer Dominitan's stadium (AD 86) on which it stands. The dramatic 'four rivers' fountain in the middle of the square was designed by Bernini. In the vicinity of Piazza Navona is the Pantheon and Campo di Fiori. The Pantheon is the best preserved ancient building of ancient Rome. The picturesque market is open in Camp di Fiori from 6 am to 2 pm.
